Bouquet Care and Safety Guide
The truth is that flowers are and should be fleeting, and their transience makes them all the more special. That being said, we can take some simple steps to keep them looking their best for as long as possible.
Our bouquets do not include flower food. This is one of the many steps we proudly take to keep sustainability at the heart of our business. Flower food comes in disposable sachets and is essentially made up of bleach, citric acid and sugar. The food source is the sugar, but this also causes the flowers to bloom quicker and so can actually shorten their vase life. The bleach acts as a cleaning agent, preventing the build up of bacteria in the water, but this can just as effectively be achieved from regularly changing the water and cleaning the vase. And the citric acid is there to lower the water’s pH level and so improve the water uptake, but re trimming the stems when you change the water will also achieve this. So, instead of adding an unnecessary product in with your flowers, we encourage you to take the following steps to keep your flowers looking their best.
Vase and Water
Please unpack your flowers immediately and place in a clean vase. Re trim the stems by 2-3cm at a 45 degree angle and change the water every 2-3 days, removing any leaves that sit below the water level.
Choose the Right Spot
Place your flowers in a cool area, away from heat sources and out of direct sunlight. Do not place directly on furniture and position away from ripening fruit, especially bananas.
Fading Stems
Remove any fading stems from the arrangement, as they can spread bacteria to the healthy ones.
Cautions
Keep out of reach of children and pets, as some flowers can be harmful and toxic if consumed. Some ingredients may also cause skin or eye irritation, so please wash your hands after handling.
British Sustainable Flowers
We try to source unusual British flowers, grown without chemicals or pesticides. No air miles, no nasties. These blooms may not last as long as imported flowers that are scentless and have been chemically treated. All our packaging is recyclable or biodegradable.
